Well, all this snow now means that you can look forward to a loooong skiing season with snow-covered peaks until summer. Check out this chart from the Swiss Avalanche Institute below just to fathom how extraordinary this season is – the snow depth is more than 170% all over Switzerland – and 2-3 times the average in many resorts.

Heli-Skiing in Engelberg

Looking for something really memorable to do this winter?

Heli-skiing is sure to provide any thrill seeker with a life-time experience. The feeling of jumping out of a heli to shoot down an untouched field of snow is not something you get everyday. In Engelberg, there are several options for heliskiing in the valley, and you can get picked up straight at the valley floor.

Depending on your level of skiing, there are several different routes to choose from – you don’t need to be a world-class skier or boarder to heli-ski. You are always accompanied by a certified UIAGM-Guide for your safety, but also to guide you down the mountain and maybe show a couple of hints too.

Heliskiing in Engelberg are done mainly around two areas – Sustenhorn (3503m) and Rosenegg (3470m) - two majestic massifs in the Berner Alpen. You need to be in good physical shape, and equipped with shovel, transceiver, backpack and probe. (Can be rented).

Before you consider heliskiing – a word of caution: It can be extremely addictive. And it might take you to new places like Alagna, Canada or even Alaska!

Engelberg Powder Alert!

It looks like we have another big low pressure coming in from the atlantic! It is forecasted to hit the northern Alps on Thursday with 30 – 80cm of snow, and up to 200 cm in local areas. With the snow height at 385 cm, we are looking at a snowpack we haven’t seen in a decade! Happy powder hunting :)

Yes – he’s back in town! Two years ago, Star Chef Niklas Ekstedt visited us for a spectacular weekend with mouth-watering food and tons of pristine Angel’s Mountain powder. Born and raised in the Swedish Ski Resort Åre, he definitely knows his way around in a mountain town. Besides being a good friend and great snowboarder, he is one of the most celebrated chefs in Sweden.

Niklas learnt his trade at some of the best restaurants in the world – including Noma in Copenhagen, El Bulli in Spain and The Fat Duck in London. Today he runs two restaurants in Stockholm – 1900 and Ekstedt. He also brings with him Karl Ljung, Chef of the Year in 1999.

Après-Ski Engelberg

Looking for a hot Glühwein or a beer after your escapades on the mountain? We welcome everyone to our bar, open every day during winter season.

If you ask us, Après-Ski is a big part of skiing. Nothing tastes better than the first sip of an ice-cold beer after venturing down from Titlis. It is where you really can inform others about the perfect turns you took, the powder they missed and the endless views from the top. We have skipped the live band, and created a bustling but talk friendly place to gather with your friends after skiing. During the late ski season, we move the Aprés outdoor, with burgers and beer in the sun.

Robert, Simon & Julia are at your service from 4 pm to midnight every day to pour beer, shake drinks & gossip!

367 centimeters of snow in December. Wow.

The driest autumn since 1860, was followed by a whopping 367 cm snowfall in December! We couldn’t be happier, the base on Titlis is three times as deep as the average yearly snow height according to this article. Welcome to a mountain resembling a giant meringue :)

Snow, snow, snow! We’re looking forward to a deep christmas.

After a extraordinarily warm autumn with sunny hiking all throughout November, winter finally came to the village. It was dressed up as Joachim – the storm who brought central Europe to a standstill, heavy rainfall and wind gusts of over 100 km/h over the Alps. It all kicked off last Monday with wind, rain and grey skies over Titlis. Then we heard rumors of deep snowpacks in Val d’Isere and Chamonix – places we normally get a lot more snow than! Aaargh!

But on Wednesday/Thursday, things started to shape up in our sacred little valley. And Friday. And Saturday. During the weekend, 90 cm fell fell on us – and today another 30 – 50 cm. And according to the forecast, we’re expecting 32 cm tomorrow. “One of my top 5 Laubs – ever”, claims local photographer Oskar Enander, who’s lived in Engelberg since 2003.
