It was steaming hot the other day, so we chose to head up to Surenenpass to see if it cooled off higher up! Surenenpass is the pass to the southeast, and you end up all the way down in Attinghausen if you walk it all the way. From there, you can take the train back to Engelberg for a full-day activity. The Surenen valley has beautiful and open terrain, a spectacular waterfall, and an amazing view over the Spannort mountains. There is also a climbing area perfect for bouldering where half of the crew stopped for the day.

The rest of us continued up to Fürenalp passing the Stäfeli hütte where local cheese is produced. From there the hiking is more advanced, however you can also take a small cable car to avoid the steepest part. Up at Fürenalp we sat down for a well deserved picnic, nothing beats a Landjäger and local Klostercheese after an exhausting hike.

Time: 2-3 hours
Difficulty:3-5 (depending on if you take the lift at Stäfeli)

Early thursday morning we headed up to hit Storeggpass. If you have been to Engelberg during winter, it is the valley you see to your left when skiing the piste down to the village. It begins with a rather steep ascent through the forest, before reaching a plateau with flowers and cows. After the treeline, the views over Laub and Brunni are amazing. At the top there is a little lake called Lutersee, and of you continue west you end up at a little mountain restaurant. A hike you do for the magnificent views over the valley.

Time: 5 – 6 hours
Season: July – October
Difficulty: 3/5

After three weeks of rain and snow in the village, summer finally came and made a grand entry. We are in the middle of constructing our new reception, but got some time on Sunday and Monday to do a hike. We had a set goal with this hike – to find Niklas’ ski that he lost three months earlier during a photo shoot with Oskar Enander. Not realizing he is 19 anymore, Niklas launched a cliff and tumbled some 40 meters down through the trees. We searched for more than two hours in the snow, but with no luck.

Of course, the ski was exactly were we thought it was three months ago, but easier to find without chest deep powder. With a ski on the backpack, we continued up to the snow, saw marmots and mountain goats who seemed newly woken. The grand finale was a huge ice cream on the restaurant at Untertrübsee.

Here is how far we have come with the reception:

After a rainy week in the end of April, we decided to head out for one of the first hikes of the season!

“The triangle” is a very distinct triangle-shaped (!) formation just below Hahnen, the mountain you see in our logo.

It begins with a short hike to the restaurant Ende Der Welt (“End of the world”), and thereafter you take a right through the forest behind the restaurant. The beginning is very dramatic with a deep canyon and waterfalls. We saw som Gems running around on the cliffs, but the fled quickly when we got closer.

There was still some snow at the top, and we filled our water bottles in the stream coming down from the top. The view from the top is amazing, with perfect views over the valley to the north and the whole Titlis-panorama. The way back is easy with a well-marked, wide footpath back to the village. All in all, it is a nice little hike that is good for a first day.

Time: 3 hours

Difficulty: 2/5
