Current Conditions in Engelberg

It’s been a sunny week here in Engelberg. With the mountain closed for maintenance and no skiing on the glacier, we’ve been reminded that this in-between season has its own special charm. Engelberg is one of those places where all the activities – and all the seasons – mix together this time of year. Proper seasonal confusion, if you ask us! So, it’s back to biking for some, while others are soaring above the valley, catching the warm updrafts on the south-facing Brunni hills. But the white peaks in the distance and the T-bars patiently waiting for snow on Klostermatte are a quiet reminder that winter is just around the corner!

Weekend Specials

When the village is calm and we have a little extra time on our hands, our chefs love to get creative and whip up something special for the weekend. Using seasonal produce and flavours inspired by the nature around us, they’ve been serving up some real magic these past few weeks.

Our Sous Chef Filip especially enjoys creating the Weekend Special Blackboards – it’s his favourite way to express creativity and test out new dishes and flavour combinations. He’s been with us for almost six years now, drawing inspiration from his home on the west coast of Sweden and from memorable restaurant experiences along the way. Here are a few of his creations that have made it onto the blackboard in recent weeks:

Butternut Pumpkin Soup served with roasted zucchini, toasted hazelnuts, sour cream & parsley.
Kale Salad served with apple, pickled shallots, toasted walnuts, walnut dressing & looooads of grated goat cheese.
Grilled Lamb Brisket served on homemade flatbread with yoghurt, lemon & oregano.
Black Angus Tartare served with yellowfoot chanterelles, pickled pumpkin, shallots, Jerusalem artichoke chips, soy mayonnaise & grilled bread.

Got a special occasion coming up? Or maybe you’re the one tasked with organizing the next team dinner? Don’t worry… we’ve got you! Our Library is the perfect spot for an apéro, a team dinner, or even a birthday celebration. With room for up to 16 people around a big community table, it’s cozy but spacious enough to make everyone feel at home. The space comes with a screen and great speakers, opening up all kinds of possibilities, from sharing PowerPoints and showing pictures or videos, to hosting your very own music quiz. Next week, on Friday the 14th of November, the mountain opens up again for skiing – and we’ve got a proper winter weekend lined up for you! Book a room and enjoy the first weekend of winter!

First Ski Lodge After Ski of the Season!
Gather your ski crew for a day on the mountain, then swing by our Bar for an afternoon that might just set the tone for the whole winter. We’ve invited our friend – DJ, quizmaster, photographer, and Gurten-drinking after ski expert – Niclas Karlsson to spin the wheels. What could possibly go wrong?

Bloody Good Sundays
As always, a Sunday after a long weekend deserves to be treated with respect. From 15:00 we’re serving up Bloody Marys (the bloody good kind) with a side of popcorn, and showing some of our favourite ski movies – or yours, if you’ve got a good one to request! To top it all off, we’ll be playing some good old Rock ’n’ Roll. This is a Sunday you don’t want to miss!
