Ski Season Is On! Titlis glacier opening 2026 and the first turns!

Ski season is on in Engelberg! The Titlis glacier finally opened for skiing on Thursday, 29 October 2026, and of course we had to be among the first up.

First Day Skiing on Titlis Glacier

Titlis glacier opening 2026 early-morning pistes were hard and icy, and it soon became clear that our edges were overdue for a service. We decided to give the sun a chance to soften things up and found ourselves a coffee in the meantime.

Thankfully, a small temporary café hut is now open during construction, so there’s still somewhere to grab a coffee between runs. If you fancy spoiling yourself, the Titlis Tower is also worth a visit for its impressive apple cake and beautifully presented tea. A little more luxurious than our usual mountain coffee stop!

Familiar faces and first turns

Chris Oldaker and the ski instructors were already making the most of opening day, flying down the pistes on their fresh Stöckli skis and loving every turn. The firm conditions didn’t seem to bother them at all, and it was great to see everyone back doing what they love. Local legend Snowflake was, of course, up there skiing too.

Once the sun reached the pistes and softened the snow a little, we could enjoy a few laps on our wider all-mountain skis too. We might have started the day with more coffee than planned, but we were very happy to be back on snow!

Off-piste will have to wait

Titlis glacier opening 2026 showed what the summer heat has done to the Titlis Glacier. Large crevasses exposed on the glacier, and snow level lower than usual. We will need a lot more snow before conditions improve enough to Ski anything outside the pists. A fresh covering can hide crevasses without making them safe to cross, so for now we’re sticking to the open, marked pistes.

If you’re thinking about heading off-piste or want to know more about current conditions, we strongly recommend contacting the local guide office, Engelberg Mountain Guide, for advice and guidance.
