Spring has arrived, but mother nature didn’t get the memo. We received almost 100 cms of snow over the past week, and it’s still falling. Each day feels like a special bonus, rewarding those unafraid to brave the rain at low elevations with DEEP pow up high.

This is a fantastic time of year to be in Engelberg. The town feels sleepy and quiet, but the mountain is serving up some best-of-the-season ski days. There’s still time to ski if you’ve got the itch! The Jochpass & Jochstock lifts are closed, but according to Titlis Stand-Trübsee and the Glacier will stay open until Sunday, 7 May, snow permitting.

It’s also an important time to remember that with great snowfall comes great responsibility. The avalanche danger has been high, and we all need to check the report frequently and make sure our safety skills, route planning, and gear are all dialed.
Music Quiz Elevated
Our beloved Tuesday evening music quiz was taken to the next level the past couple of weeks! We were so lucky to welcome the incredibly talented Stockholm-based singer/songwriter Nova Becc as host. She turned the quiz into a concert and quite literally rocked the house. We can’t wait to have her back next winter!

Hard Facts
Snow depth Mountain (slope, 3.020m): 250 cm
Snow condition: Powder, partially hard
Latest snowfall: Today – Valley: Fri, 14.04.
Avalanche alert level (from avalanche bulletin): Danger level “high” (4=) on west, north and south-east slopes over 2200m. Other slopes about one danger level less.
Hazard description
Lots of fresh snow and snowdrift are the main danger. Medium and large spontaneous avalanches are increasingly to be expected. In isolated cases, avalanches can also start in layers close to the ground and become very large. This mainly from catchment areas on the shady side that have not yet been discharged at high altitudes and in the high mountains.
Exposed parts of traffic routes can be endangered. The conditions for snow sports away from secured slopes are unfavorable.
Snow pack (from avalanche bulletin): A lot of fresh snow fell in the north in the past week. There was most fresh snow on the northern crest of the Alps and in northern Grisons. A total of 50 to 80 cm fell there, from the Grimsel Pass to the Glarner Alps up to 1 m. In these areas in particular, a lot of fresh snow will fall again until Sunday afternoon, accompanied by sometimes strong north winds.
In the upper part of the old snowpack, there are sometimes angular and weak layers in the area of melt crust crusts. Weak layers are also present in the lower part of the snowpack, especially on western, northern and eastern slopes above around 2200 m. Especially in Graubünden and in southern Valais, these are not superimposed in places and are prone to interference. In western Lower Valais and on the northern slopes of the Alps, the low-lying weak layers are often heavily overlaid and can currently hardly be triggered.
