Our Favorite Summer Activities in Engelberg, Switzerland
Living in Engelberg, we get to experience the best of this mountain town year-round. While we’re famous for its winter sports, we love how it transforms into an outdoor playground in summer. Here are our favourite activities and tips for making the most of your summer in Engelberg!

1. Hiking
With endless trails right on our doorstep, we never tire of hiking. One of our go-to routes is the Brunni Trail up to Härzlisee and then Rugghubelhütte or around Fürenalp, and the trails offer incredible views without being too tough. Brunni Trail is accessible from the village – a bit tougher climb, or via the Brunni lift and go from there. For a post-hike treat, stop by one of the mountain huts for some fresh alpine cheese on Brunni, or Rösti on Fürenalp. You can take the free bus 20 meters from our doorstep to get to the bottom stations of both these mountains!
2. Mountain Biking
We’re big fans of the biking trails around Jochpass. The downhill runs are thrilling, but there are also easier routes for those just getting started. Our tip? Rent an e-bike if you want to cover more ground with less effort, especially on the steeper trails. It’s such a fun way to explore the area and you’ll feel like a local in no time.

3. Climbing and Via Ferrata
Engelberg’s Via Ferrata routes are a must if you’re into climbing or looking for an adrenaline rush. We usually recommend starting with Brunnistöckli for beginners, as it’s well-secured and offers amazing views along the way. Once you’re more confident, try Fürenwand—the climb is more challenging but the sense of accomplishment at the top is unbeatable.
4. Paragliding
Whenever friends visit, we suggest trying tandem paragliding. Even after living here for years, the view from above never gets old! The pilots are fantastic and make sure you feel completely safe, so even if you’re nervous, it’s well worth taking the leap. It’s the best way to take in the full beauty of the valley and mountains from a new perspective.

5. Titlis Rotair & Glacier Park
We might be locals, but we never get tired of the Titlis Rotair. It’s one of those experiences that you can do over and over, and the 360-degree views on the ride up are always stunning. Even in summer, you can have some fun in the snow at Glacier Park, and we usually end up racing each other on the tubing slopes—it’s just too fun to resist!
6. Lake Trübsee Adventures
Lake Trübsee is our favorite spot for a lazy afternoon. Whether we’re renting a boat or just walking the path around the lake, it’s an ideal place to unwind. If you’re here with family or just want to slow down, we recommend packing a picnic and spending a few quiet hours by the water.
7. Golfing with a View
Even if you’re not a huge golfer, you can’t beat the views at Engelberg-Titlis Golf Club. It’s a great way to spend a sunny day surrounded by mountains. We often head there more for the scenery than our golfing skills, and it’s a perfect place to relax if you’re looking for something a bit different from the usual mountain sports.

8. Cultural Highlights and Local Cuisine
A visit to Engelberg Abbey is like stepping into another world. We love wandering around the abbey, learning about its history, and picking up some locally made cheese afterwards. If you’re here in summer, make sure to try the local Rösti or Älplermagronen—there’s no better way to finish a day of exploring than with a hearty Swiss meal.
Engelberg is such a special place in summer, and even after all this time, we still find new things to love. Whether you’re after adventure, relaxation, or just soaking in the alpine beauty, there’s something here for everyone. We hope these tips help you enjoy Engelberg as much as we do!
