Another week has gone by and we managed to break new grounds in the gym, above 1800 m.a.s.l aswell as in the bars. Yes we were quite busy, thank you for noticing!
When the forecast says storm in the alps, they are not kidding folks. We have the most startling pre season with good snow and livid ski tours where no one would normally go in preseason. The wish for warm weather came true and then more. There is a thing called “föhn” here in Switzerland and it is basically warm winds with high pressure. It forced the village to go into autumn mode again (no trace of snow) but up in the ski system it (the “föhn”) have great possibilities to make the base layer perfect. The result we wouldn’t know since the wind was too strong for the lifts to even consider opening in the beginning of the week. Now they are up and running again and will keep open if nothing unexpected happens.
However this is fortunate or not we still have a lot of energy to spare and therefore ski touring and leg training is still on our schedule. The ones whom haven’t already peaked their muscular strength have some possibilities to grow stronger (“hint, hint”). Hopefully before they “accidentally” go for a way to high drop or a strong turn that would definitely tear the asl. And if this is not enough we have some spare time during night as well. Therefore we have high hopes for practicing our drinking technique into perfection, and this is not to underestimate. Best way to do this is by slowly building up a tolerance and fluid holding abilities. When skiing you will want to drink water, so if you for example are in the line to the lift and someone just called you up to the glacier for the most amazing snow, you will just have to hold it in, period.
With that said, the snow layer looks good up on the mountain so there is no need to panic regarding the “föhn” just yet. We would say that it is the perfect opportunity to lower the levels of stress and just enjoy skiing.
