Harder restrictions in Switzerland as of the 14th of Januar to the 28th of February.
The new strategy and regulations by the Swiss Government include closing restaurants for external guests (hotel guests allowed) and the closing of shops (not pick ups or rentals).
The new covid-19 regulations for Switzerland came in yesterday afternoon the 14th of January. In Obwalden, the restaurants are keeping closed for external guests, from the 18th of January until, for now, 28th of February. Hotel guests are allowed to eat and drink at their hotel, or other hotels in the village.
Take away is allowed and we have a take away menu with lunch options at Ski Lodge Engelberg already.

Are the lifts closed?
No, from the 30th of December 2020 the lifts and piste areas are open again.
What can I do if I don’t like to ski in Engelberg ?
You can go up and enjoy the sun, hiking, cross-country skiing, and snowshoeing.
Where can I eat if the restaurants are closed?
Hotel guests can eat breakfast, eat dinner in our hotel restaurant “Brasserie Konrad”, and have a drink in our cosy bar.
Can I travel to Switzerland?
Yes, if your country of residence or country that you are travelling from, in the last 24 hours, is not on this list. (Changes depending on developments).
Are the ski rentals and sledge rentals closed?
No, they are allowed to have open during the whole time.
PS. Normal Shops without rental are closed from 18th of January.
Is it possible to go Ski Touring or Sledging in Engelberg?
Yes, all lifts are open for everyone to do anything again.
Can I eat Lunch when all restaurants are closed?
Yes, many restaurants on the mountain and in the village offer Take Away Lunch, and the bakeries are open.
Can I Eat out if I’m not a hotel guest?
Nope, only hotel guests can eat and drink in hotel restaurants and Bars until 28th of January as it is now. You can order in takeaway though.
What are the Mask Requirement rules in Engelberg, Switzerland?
A mask is required on all lifts, including ski and chair lifts. When standing in line, a mask must be worn and the distance must be maintained.
In all closed means of transport, you are required to wear a mask, and only two-thirds of the seats in cabins and gondolas may be occupied. This applies to seats and standing room.
You are also required to wear a mask when standing up, for example in restaurants, bars and shops.
What are the opening times for Bars and Restaurants in Engelberg?
Hotel restaurants and Hotel bars in Canton Obwalden can be open until 11 p.m for hotel guests!
