Lifts have been boarded, pistes have been slayed and fresh out-of-the-box powder runs were enjoyed.
So while the snow slowly makes it’s way down the mountain so does the preparations of the pistes. The glacier and the Rotair lift is getting prepared so is therefore closed for 10 days (opens again on Saturday 18th). The good angle to this is that the team of ski patrol and snow-makers have some time to prepare the lower grounds for us enthusiasts.
Cold nights made it possible to fully blow out the brand new snow machines and get the top layer solid in the area of Stand-Trübsee. Two pistes is open for business and they are in very good condition. Before the grand opening mother nature gave us a well deserved snowfall. A 40cm layer of powder covered it all up in one smooth sweep, like icing on a cake.
If you are a more adventurous type we also have reports from the ones that went for ski touring in Jochpass and on the Glacier. Allegedly they felt like any ordinary February morning, yep exactly, that would be: very great indeed.
We are now hoping for a short, short as in we pray for a magically short, period of warmth to push the snow together. Then we have a solid base layer and we are in for a treat of a season.
Saturday 19th of November is the first day for skiing from the Glacier all the way down to Trübsee and we are almost short of breath with excitement. The forecast says around 60cm of snow for Sunday morning, so we all better get the fat skis prepared.
Get your room directly here on the page or send us an email at info@skilodgeengelberg.com if you feel like quitting your day job and come see us this season. (n’eh, we get it.. maybe not quit, but a week of powder will do wonders for anyone human, guaranteed)
Update 19.11.16 11 Am – Warm weather is causing it to rain in the village, but at Trübsee (1800 m.a.s.l) and up the snow is falling down. Slightly less than anticipated, but enough for at least 40cm for tomorrow. Hopefully it will get a bit cooler during the day, the humidity is high and could cause the new snow to “set” a bit.
