Two days away from the desk (and closer to the mountains).
Every now and then, even we need to check the map.
Twice a year, our team steps away from daily operations for two dedicated days of reflection, planning, brainstorming and collaboration. Not because something is wrong, but because we know that growth requires perspective.
At Ski Lodge Engelberg, we spend our days making sure our guests have a great time in the mountains. But twice a year, we take two days for ourselves – to step away from the daily shuffle, look at where we are heading and remember why we do what we do. Because as the old saying goes: you cannot see the wood for the trees. And in Engelberg, we are lucky enough to have plenty of trees – and quite a few mountains too.

Working On Ski Lodge Engelberg, Not In Ski Lodge Engelberg
For two days, we trade reception desks, emails and daily routines for mountain air, walking meetings and uninterrupted conversations. Some sessions take place around a table. Others happen during a walk by the lake. The best discussions often continue over lunch at Alpstübli or while taking in the mountain views that surround Engelberg.
The goal is simple: to create space for ideas.
As a hotel, we spend every day helping guests enjoy memorable experiences in Engelberg. Yet twice a year, we give ourselves the same opportunity. We step away from our routines and look at Ski Lodge from a different perspective.
- What can we improve
- What do our guests need next?
- Where do we want to go as a team?
The answers rarely arrive while rushing through a busy day. They emerge when there is time to think.

Coffee, conversations and a mountain of ideas
Our team of ten, managers and second-in-commands from the hotel, reception, administration, kitchen, bar and Brasserie Konrad swapped the usual routines for two days of thinking, talking and walking.
We started with coffee (an essential ingredient for any serious strategy session) and sat down to talk about our vision and goals for the year ahead.
After a lunch break at Sportingpark, we continued digging deeper into each department – finding ways to make our little mountain home run smoother, feel warmer and become even more Ski Lodge.

Our meeting room has a pretty good view
The next morning started with coffee, sandwiches and a simple plan:
Walk. Talk. Listen. We took the gondola to Trübsee and continued along the trails, turning the mountains into our meeting room.
One-to-one conversations happened along the way. Ideas appeared somewhere between the lake, the fresh air and the occasional “let’s stop for a second and look at this view.”
Lunch was waiting at Alpstübli, right by the Jochpass bottom station — because every productive meeting deserves a proper mountain lunch.
Afterwards, everyone made their way back down at their own speed. Some walked. Some jogged. Some wisely chose the gondola.
And eventually, to a well-earned beer at Untertrübsee.

The best ideas rarely sit still
The funny thing about these two days?
The most valuable conversations rarely happen when everyone is sitting around a table.
They happen while walking.
Over lunch.
On the way to the next place.
Or when someone says: “Actually, I have been thinking about something…”
The mountains have a funny way of making people slow down, listen better and think a little bigger.

Why we do this
Running a hotel is a bit like skiing. You need a plan, but you also need to be able to adjust when conditions change. The snow is never exactly the same. Neither are guests, seasons or challenges. We take a moment to check our direction, sharpen our edges and enjoy the view.
Because the best way forward is sometimes found by taking a different path. And luckily, in Engelberg, there are plenty of those.
The people are simply elsewhere—walking, discussing, reflecting and gathering inspiration outdoors. Because while meetings may start indoors, the thinking often happens outside. That is one of the great advantages of hosting conferences and in Engelberg.
The mountains naturally encourage people to slow down, look up and think differently.

Why Engelberg Works
We often hear that teams come to Engelberg for the scenery. They return because of what the scenery allows them to do. Away from the distractions of everyday work, conversations become deeper. Teams connect more easily. New ideas emerge naturally.
- A strategy session becomes a lakeside walk.
- A workshop continues over an alpine lunch.
- A coffee break turns into a conversation that changes the direction of a project.
The mountains do not replace the meeting. They become part of it.

Want to bring your team to the mountains?
After doing these days ourselves for years, we have learned a few things about mountain meetings.
The best ones are not just about finding a room with a projector.
They are about finding the right rhythm.
A good coffee before the first idea appears.
A walk when the discussion gets stuck.
A mountain lunch when everyone needs a reset.
A drink together when the work is done.
Luckily, Engelberg is a rather good place for all of the above. Bring your team to Ski Lodge Engelberg and we will help you create an offsite that feels less like a meeting and more like a mountain experience.
We know the little tricks and local secrets:
where to take a walking meeting,
where to have lunch with the best views,
when to go for a hike,
and where to end the day with a well-deserved drink.

Depending on the season, your team can swap the meeting room for:
– a sunrise hike above Engelberg
– a guided mountain walk and reflection session
– a trail run through the valley
– skiing or freeriding together in winter
– a team ski day with our favourite local spots
– yoga in the mountains
– a lake walk around Trübsee
– a visit to a local producer or wine experience
– a sauna session after a day outside
– a BBQ, drinks or dinner together at Ski Lodge
Because the mountains are not just a backdrop.
And sometimes the best team ideas appear somewhere between the first coffee and the last chairlift.
