Snow Report Engelberg 8th of March – Spring is Here… But Will Winter Make a Comeback?

8.03.2026

Reported: 1st – 8th of March

Last week we asked ourselves the question: Is spring already here?
And after the week behind us, we can confirm, yes. Spring has been very much present, both down in the valley and up on the mountain. Now you might be thinking: Wait, it’s March in Engelberg… we came for the famous powder town! But let’s be real for a second. You’re on vacation, and these conditions are pretty much screaming holiday vibes. Sun, happy faces, no powder stress, no tricky conditions to worry about, just some really sweet spring skiin:)

Are you convinced yet? Read the full report to find out what we get up to when these kind of vacay conditions roll in, and what’s coming next. Is spring really here to stay, or will we soon be skiing cold snow again?

Where to go Spring Skiing in Engelberg

When the sun’s out and the snow softens during the day before refreezing overnight, this is our go-to for proper spring skiing: Graustock & Schafberg. It’s a south-facing, fairly mellow ski tour with just enough adventure and some stunning views over Engelberg!

There are a couple of ways to tackle it. One option is to ski all the way down from Jochpass to Engstlensee and start your tour from there, you can check the routes on a map here! Another is the traverse from Jochpass: you cross the first ridge up towards Schafberg, then continue across a second ridge to reach Graustock. Depending on the snow, that second ridge might call for a bit of bootpacking or light scrambling.

If it’s your first time exploring the Engelberg mountains, we’d definitely recommend going with a guide, here’s a good place to find one!

Because this is a south-facing tour and it’s been warm lately, an early start is key. Sometimes it’s worth taking a longer lunch break while the snow softens into perfect spring conditions. On this route, the traverse can feel a bit exposed, but the skiing itself is more forgiving. Read the conditions, make smart decisions, and you’re in for a pretty sweet spring skiing adventure. Have fun out there and stay safe!

There is snow on the horizon!

Soooo… can you see what we see? There’s a good chance we’ll get some snow by the end of next week. According to reports, temperatures will drop, and we’re welcoming it with open arms, because duh, we still want a little more out of this winter, righty? Read more about the weather coming up here!
