Snow Report Engelberg – 11th of January – Storm Riding and Blue Skies in One Weekend

Skiers in Laub Skiing pow, Engelberg

11.01.2026

Reported: January 5th – 11th

Pow Pow Pow!!!

Yes, that’s right – the storm came, and it delivered.

The week started off pretty mild, with hints of rain in the valley as the storm rolled in. We’ll be honest, for a moment we thought: is this really all we’re going to get? Especially while watching other parts of the Alps stack up proper snowfall. But those of us who actually read the forecasts knew this was exactly how it was supposed to play out. Snow was lined up for Friday and Saturday, and sure enough, it arrived right on time. Read the full report below to see how it all unfolded.

Storm Skiing at its best!

Friday and Saturday turned into proper storm riding days. The kind of days where only the dedicated powder skiers are out. Faceshots, low visibility, and that special kind of stoke you only get when you’re quite literally surrounded by snow. Sharing the hype, knowing that once the storm clears, the next bluebird day is going to be something else. Because let’s be honest — knowing what’s up and down, and actually seeing the face you’re dropping into, definitely adds to the experience.

Nothing beats a Powder Day tho…

And then came Sunday. A promising weather report had people lining up early, and the lift lines on Sunday morning said it all. Luckily, there was plenty of snow to go around, and even a bit left to save for the coming days. Given the early season conditions with mild spells, wind, and a few colder periods, we were expecting things to feel a bit sketchy, especially with the amount of wind during the storm. But to our surprise, the snow felt surprisingly stable and compact, while still fluffy and playful. We didn’t spot many avalanche signs, which was encouraging.

That said, a few shallower spots and rocks were still lurking, so those preseason rock skis might need to stay out of the basement just a little longer. As always: ride with caution, use all your senses, and come prepared!
