Summer, Please Hold – Venture Report 28th Aug, 2017

Summer, Please Hold - Venture Report 28th Aug

Summer vacations are over but we are not done yet.

The weather gods have been good to us lately. We are out and about most of the time and can’t complain at all. Of course, we get drenched in unexpected rainstorms from time to time but that’s what is to be expected in the mountains. We have all have come to peace with the matter – if the storms would shine with their absence we wouldn’t have any snow either. So we are all good – the weather gods and us.

From now on, we go out prepared and with a purpose. The new Flow bike trail on Jochpass is halfway there and you can try the top part already. We went out to try it a couple of times last week and were not disappointed. The trail is rolling in bits and tricky in parts, a fun combination of what the bike area has been missing before. You get to step up your game, be on your toes and literally suppress all urges to fight the trail. Otherwise you’ll probably shoot out, bad, and won’t be skiing until January. Wouldn’t that be sad? So our words of wisdom are: Go with the flow.

Yes, you’re probably thinking “How stupid, it’s called the Flow trail”. But you’d be surprised how many people think that “Flow trail” means easy peasy lemon squeezy. No, it doesn’t. You better put in some work, man.

The other trail we tested last week is the “four lakes” hike. You can hike it or bike it, whatever floats your boat. The only difference is, of course, the time you want to spend on it. A good place to have a coffee or a lunch break is the Tannalp or Melchsee-Frutt. (Tannalp if you want to walk a bit after your meal, or Melchsee-Frutt when you want to eat near the finish line). The hike passes four beautiful lakes and three small villages. The way to get home is up to you: Either go the same trail back or go down to Stöckalp and take the bus and train to Engelberg. It is approximately 25 CHF and you will need to bring cash for the bus fare. The level is easy but you need some stamina if you are going to hike the whole way. Have fun!
