Everyone survived Christmas and it was brighter than ever before.
The last weekend and the beginning of this week looked dark, dark indeed. There was no snow on the radar and only bluebird as far as the eye could see… We thought – that was it. Now the snow is slowly fading away and the pictures from last year’s New Years Eve flashed before our eyes. No snow and nothing but sun. They say that hope is the last thing that leaves the human body, well, apparently not when it comes to snow layers.
Then it happened. A new powder alert popped up on our mobile phones and suddenly all we saw was the bright light. A storm was coming.
It arrived today and it brought a solid 30 cm of fresh snow and then some. Piers Solomon was yet again nowhere to be seen except for the occasional photo on Instagram, deep in the masses in front of Oskar Enanders lens. Skiers going up the mountain were no longer in need of the SPF50 sunscreen and everything was back to normal.

Snow condition: Powder

Danger description
As a consequence of fresh snow and stormy weather extensive snow drift accumulations will form. These can be released easily. As the snowfall becomes more intense more frequent natural avalanches are to be expected. Avalanches can additionally be released in the weakly bonded old snow in particular on very steep west, north and east facing slopes. From starting zones at higher altitudes avalanches, capable of reaching the valleys, must be expected in isolated cases. Exposed transportation routes can be endangered. The conditions are dangerous for snow sport activities outside marked and open pistes.
- During the night on the Main Alpine Ridge, winds were blowing at moderate to strong velocity, in other regions at light to moderate strength, from the northwest.
